  • Chinese company Baidu is intensifying its efforts on generative AI. This is a major focus area for Baidu, as it sees generative AI as having the potential to revolutionize many industries.

  • They beat second-quarter revenue estimates, helped by a post-pandemic recovery in advertising spending.

  • Baidu is still waiting for Chinese regulators' approval for a large-scale roll out of its ChatGPT-like Ernie bot to the public. This is a key regulatory hurdle that Baidu needs to clear before it can fully commercialize its generative AI technology.

  • IBM chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna believes that white-collar jobs will be among the first to be impacted by artificial intelligence. He cites the potential for generative AI and large language models to "make every enterprise process more productive."
